'What the Butler Saw' for Gallery Players

About to open a two-week run of the fabulous Joe Orton farce What the Butler Saw at Gallery Players.

I’m playing the lead role of Dr. Prentice, the psychiatrist whose would-be misbehavior sets all the madness in motion.

It’s promising to be a very funny show! It runs September 11th to 26th in lovely Park Slope.

*UPDATE* – the show has gotten a rave review from J.Jordan at nytheatre.com:

Although his character could hardly be called the “straight” man in this comedy, David Sedgwick’s Dr. Prentice is very good at convincingly working on his feet to get himself out of jam after jam. You want to feel sorry for him but can’t, because his rapidly degenerating situation is too amusing to want to repair.

'The Fourth Estate' at NY Fringe Festival

Today is the opening of our 5-show (Fringe Festival limit) run of Glenda Frank’s new play The Fourth Estate.

Directed by Rebecca Hengstenberg, and with a great cast, it’s a series of four vignettes relating to journalists and the dangers and challenges they face. I’m fortunate to be in two of the four pieces, playing an American editor and an Irish editor.

So, dialects a-hoy!

Follow the link above to buy tickets. See you at the show!

*UPDATE* – glowing review on nytheatre.com:

The cast is often top-notch, particularly Dennis Gagomiros and David Sedgwick, who give exceptionally grounded, gritty performances. Sedgwick plays two seemingly similar characters equally as compelling and believable with a subtlety that gives each their own inner life.

'The Way of Justice' in Florida

Agent Jacob Cooper is on the case...

For the first 10 days of April I was down in Tallahassee, Florida, for principal shooting on The Way of Justice, an FSU graduate thesis film directed by Emily Peck. I think is going to be amazing. I was thrilled to work with such a talented cast and crew!

'Loyalties' for Unity Stage Company

Currently in rehearsals for John Galsworthy’s Loyalties at Unity Stage; opening January 7, 2010.

'Mr. Sensitivity' at NY Fringe Festival

August 16th – August 30th, 2009

About to open as the hapless husband in the new play Mr. Sensitivity – part of this year’s New York International Fringe Festival.

Lots of explicit language and sexual references – yes, it’s a comedy!

*UPDATE* – very positive review on nytheatre.com.

'Shining City' reviewed

The show was well-received by those who saw it…

Sedgwick’s is an effective, understated performance… More is acted than spoken – and acted very well. … first-rate Theatre.

Irish again...

Apparently I’m specializing in Irish characters, particularly (ex-)priests and seminarians, struggling (naturally) with their faith and/or other “personal issues”…

I’ve been cast in the lead role of Ian the counselor/therapist in the brilliant Conor McPherson’s Shining City. Brian F. O’Byrne played the role on Broadway a few years back, opposite Oliver Platt.

I’ll be performing at Shadow Lawn Stage from mid-July. Rehearsals begin in a couple of weeks.

So if you’re looking for an excuse to visit the Jersey Shore…

I’m moving the site over to WordPress, and experimenting with some different looks, so bear with me…
